A Backup Sump Pump May Be The Best Investment for Your Basement

Your home is your castle.  Everyone wants to protect all of the time and finances they’ve put into their house.  One of the ways you can do this is to make sure you have a backup sump pump in your basement to protect against flooding.

Water damage can be serious business, and no one wants to have to get rid of water logged keepsakes and records, which are often kept in basement storage. A sump pump is a device that keeps your basement from flooding by pumping out excess water in emergency situations such as floods, severe storms, seeping ground water or even burst pipes. Even snow melt can sometimes flood a basement, but in San Antonio the more likely culprit is the storm season.

Sump pumps aren’t used frequently, but when they’re needed, it’s an emergency race against the clock to keep the water from rising and your hard earned home and possessions from getting damaged.

However, most sump pumps are hooked into the home’s electricity, and if the basement is flooding due to one of Texas’ big storms, or some other natural emergency, there’s a good chance that your power could be knocked out. Mother Nature can be unpredictable.

This is where the backup sump pump comes in, and helps prevent permanent water damage to your home’s structure. A backup sump pump is battery or generator powered, and will work even if the electricity to the house has been knocked out. Even if your electricity is still on, it’s nice to have the double the power to remove even more of the water quickly. And if the power’s out and you don’t have a back up, the water in your basement will continue to rise as you’re scrambling to find something to use.

There are several types of emergency backup sump pumps available, including ones that run on rechargeable batteries.
